New Year card and holiday history
Despite the fact that officially New Year’s in the United States is on January 1st, the celebration starts on December 31st. To Celebrate New Year Eve, people see off the old year till midnight, then celebrate a new one. The celebrations are usually noisy and joyful, taking place in theaters, night clubs, restaurants and homes. Immediately after the bells ring at midnight, champagne corks and fireworks shoot up into the sky. People hug and kiss, wishing one another a Happy New Year and giving New Year greeting cards and gifts to friends and relatives.
There are street parades and parties on New Years Eve in some of big cities in the United States. The largest and most rowdy is the one in Times Square in New York City. Thousands of people gather there, and millions of Americans join them, watching the New Year’s show on TV.
Different countries celebrate the New Year in different ways, but everywhere this holiday is fun and exciting.
